Used It Before You Lose It

When I was somewhere in my late teens my great-grandma Golm--or was it in my early twenties and my grandma Golm--I can't remember and it's not really the main point, well maybe it is . . . o.k. sometime between 1985 and 1990, some old woman genetically linked to me gave me some pillowcases with crocheted lace. A message came along with the cases, "Don't put these in the closet just because they're hand crocheted. Use them everyday." Oh I remember now, it was in my early twenties and my grandma not my great-grandma, but she was giving me the cases my great-grandma had made. My grandma wanted me to use the pillowcase so they would get old and unravel and look horrible. I would then be totally bummed out and to get over the lost of my pretty, pretty pillowcases I would learn to make crocheted lace.

That's exactly what I did. It's one of the nicest things anyone's said to me. Crochet for me is so relaxing and so much fun. Everytime I sit down to crochet I'm happy I had a grandmother that wanted me to use stuff up.

I wish I could do that! The lace is beautiful. Great picture.

When do I put my order in for some lovely crocheted pillowcases? And I hope our kids care enough to treasure the things WE make during our lives for them to share and enjoy during their adult lives.
